A little on the fear of the Lord

“In olden days men of faith were said to ‘walk in the fear of the God’ and to ‘serve the Lord with fear.’ However intimate their communion with God, however bold their prayers, at the base of their religous life was the conception of God as awesome and dreadful.” -A.W. Tozer

God is our friend, but instead of our friend who grew up in the house beside us, He is the friend who lives in the palace. We can enjoy an intimate relationship but, like one who is friends with a king, we must have a healthy fear of Him; only to an infinitely higher degree in light of his transcendence and awfulness.
